International Bonsai Master Harold Sasaki at Denver Botanic Gardens – “One Man Show”

Local and International known Rocky Mountain Bonsai Society master Harold Sasaki was the first Bonsai master to be honored with displaying his trees in the Bonsai pavilion at the Denver Botanic Gardens in 2013. The event was titled a  “One Man Show” and featured around 20 Bonsai trees and Harold gave a presentation on Bonsai. Inspired living Inc. produced a video of Harold giving his presentation. MAY 2013 – Walter Buck, PhD and Paul Gilbert – Bonsai Clubs International

* Walter Buck 2011 Bob Kataoka Memorial Award for Artist-of-the-Year

* Paul Gilbert 2007 Bob Kataoka Memorial Award for Artist-of-the-Year

Bonsai Clubs International (BCI) – recognized the art of Walter Buck by selecting his Colorado Blue Spruce Bonsai as one of fifty trees to be displayed in its Best of BCI 50TH Anniversary Photo Album.  The photo at the right is what this magnificent tree looked like when Walter was awarded 2011 RMBS Artist-of-the-Year.

Paul Gilbert was also recognized by BCI for having one of the best stones in the world. His stone is also featured in the Best of BCI 50TH Anniversary Photo Album.  

Congratulations to both Walter and Paul on their fine accomplishments.

JAN 2013 – Todd Schlafer – RYUGA BONSAI TOOLS’ 2012 OfBonsai Progressive Bonsai Styling Contest | 2nd Place Winner

Congratulations to RMBS member Todd Schlafer for taking 2nd place in the 2012 OFBONSAI  Magazine Progressive Styling Contest sponsored by RYUGA Bonsai Tools. Todd styled a Colorado Blue Spruce, shown at the right.  Todd was awarded the 2010 RMBS Artist-of-the Year.

JAN 2013 – Larry Jackel – AUTHOR of Ponderosa Pines as Bonsai

Congratulations go to RMBS member Larry Jackel for publishing the book Ponderosa Pines as Bonsai.  One of its distributors, Stone Lantern, said: “Larry Jackel focuses on one of the most beautiful and dramatic bonsai trees in North America, the Poderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa). Ponderosa are rugged, handsome trees that are easily distinguished by their thick plated orangish bark. Old collected Ponderosa pine bonsai are prized by bonsai artists.”   Larry was awarded the 2012 RMBS Bonsai Artist of the Year.
