Wrangle has a very nice and informative article titled “North American Pinyon-Juniper Woodland” which provides information on Pinus Edulis – Pinyon Pine and Junipers in the Western States. The article gives you detailed information on where they grow, including elevations, plateaus etc. Satellite imagery estimates you can search 55.6 million acres looking for these species and most of it is public lands. The article also lists 6 different Juniper species that grow with Pinyon Pines. Redberry Juniper – J.eythrocarpa looks very interesting to me if you can find a nice one to collect.
