HomeUncategorizedColorado Bonsai – Boxwood Psyllid – Shrubs – “Insect”

I spent the morning today working on a Buxus – Boxwood Bonsai tree at the Denver Botanic Gardens greenhouse and noticed that something was wrong with the tree. I donated this particular tree to the Gardens many years ago and there appeared to be damage to growing tips all over the tree. Some of the tips appeared to be cupping in like it was trying to form a very large flower bud. This is not normal for a Boxwood. I have numerous Boxwoods at my home and none of them do this. Nobody at the greenhouse could identify what was attacking the tree. After returning home I discovered the Boxwood was under attack by “Boxwood Psyllid” which is a sucking type insect. I notified Curator Larry Jackel about the attack and he will be mounting a counter attack on the little creatures soon. I have added an article(s) titled “Boxwood Psyllid – Shrubs” and “Boxwood Psyllid” to the Boxwoods – Buxus Bonsai page under Deciduous Bonsai and Bonsai Tree Information pages. I also added the article to the Diseases/Insects page under Bonsai Basics page.
