The following story was borrowed from a photo on the American Conifer Society website. The story was written by Jerry Morris and is titled “Confused Limber Pine“. Confused Limber Pine

Sometimes, I like to be in a place where I’m filled with thinking or wondering. A place like the top of a remote mountain………….alone in January on a clear day or standing gest Cottonwood, north of Denver, or at day break in a mountain cabin by a window with a Jack Rabbit looking in at me because he saw a movement. I said “sometimes”, but I should have said OFTEN!

 

A place that brought this to mind is called the “The Gove”. It is a large number of confused Limber Pines growing in an area about the size of a small city park. I have tagged 13 trees here that are much different from normal. One of these trees is a 5 footer and looks to be well over 100 years of age. I counted the rings on a dead branch. Another doesn’t want to grow up, it just wants to spread out and two others are growing a few inches apart and are different colors and are 16” tall! The largest tree in this area is 30 feet tall and is as thick as heavy fog! The limbs break easily in a big snow. I wonder…..How did the grove become to be?…What should my part be in this discovery?..Would these trees rather have names then numbers?…Or none at all?…Think Jerry! Are these trees confused or maybe explorers just doing their thing….or?????….You guess! Comments PLEASE!
