I was able to take a few photos of the Denver Botanic Gardens Acer buergerianum – Trident Maple Bonsai trees. They have three in the collection and all of them are different then the others. Today I am going to show you tree number 1 in the collection. The tree is under the care of International Bonsai Master Larry Jackel, who is the curator of the Bonsai collection at the gardens.
This tree has the best nebari on a maple that I have ever seen in person. Nothing else has ever come close to it. Leaf size on the tree is around the size of a quarter, which is very small and all of the leaves are uniform in size.
This tree spends the winter in Colorado in a greenhouse and is in fully leafed out in April. Care must be taken when placing the tree outside to prevent the leaves from burning.
