This is my Rhus trilobata ‘Autumn Amber’ Three Leaf Sumac Bonsai Tree #3 Bonsai tree. I purchased this tree in the early spring of 2020 at the Longmont Tree Farm north of Denver. At the time of purchase none of the trees had any leaves which makes early spring the best time to look for them. They had around 50 of these sumacs sitting on the ground. I found this one and another one on the outside perimeter of the group. It is easy to see the trunks and nebari and not waste your time looking at them with leaves on them. Now you can still find nice ones with leaves on them but it is going to take a lot longer especially if they have 50 of them.

So here is tree #3. I like the trunk and nebari on this tree. I just styled it in the upstairs bedroom a couple of days ago. I cut off a number of branches and used cut paste on them. I did notice the trunk was oozing sap in several places. I intend to give it some Bayer Advance the next time it is warm enough to water it. This tree was like a big puzzle with all the branches being the pieces of the puzzle. This is its first styling and I will revisit the tree after it buds out and is growing.

This species of tree is a good tree for beginning artists to work on. All you need to do is find a good one at a nursery center and buy it. Take your time and look and be picky.
