HomeUncategorizedColorado Bonsai – Update on Rhizotonic for Bonsai Roots

I ordered a bottle of Rhizotonic and it arrived on 4/22/2019 and immediately put it to use. I have been on a roll in bare rooting trees and placing them into Bonsai pots. The following species have been worked on Smoke Bush, Bald Cypress, 2 New Mexico Privets, 2 Barberries, Birch, Burning Bush, Oak, Willow, Persian ironwood, Stinkbush (Sumac), Virginia creeper. I have been using the product on all of these trees and they seem to be responding well to it. I was really worried about 3 trees that did not seem to be doing well before receiving the Rhizotonic. The Burning Bush was loosing its leaves, the Willow leaves were dying and the large Barberry looked like it was dying period, its leaves were drying up and not looking well. The leaves on the Burning Bush have stabilized and the smaller branches are nice and green. I am sure it will bud out again. The Willow tree was the last tree I did and it looks to be stabilizing with most of the new shoots having sustained major damage to them. It seems to have stopped now after using Rhizotonic. The worst tree was a very large Barberry. I was sure the tree was going to die. I placed the tree in shade outside and the leaves kept getting worse. I brought the tree into the garage and was misting the tree several times a day. The tree kept getting worse, by the time Rhizotonic arrived it was mostly dried up and with a few good leaves. Well 6 days latter the tree has leaves every where. It even has a few flowers on it. I think this product helped these trees and also the ones that seemed to be doing well. I did move all of these trees back into the garage and placed them directly under 2 large fluorescent banks of lights which I think also helped them. Keeping them out of the wind and direct sun helps. I had placed them in shade but the 3 trees were suffering.

I am also using it on a Yamadori Mountain Mahogany that I slip potted into a Bonsai pot. I did a little root pruning on the tree. It seems to be doing great with no obvious damage to it.

As I said I did bare root all of these trees and I think this product is working just like International Bonsai Master Harry Harrington said. I plan on using the product on some collected Yamadori Mountain Mahogany trees to see if I can get the tree to produce roots closer to the trunk.
