My favorite tree in the 2019 Rocky Mountain Bonsai Society was a very nice Buxus – Boxwood proudly being displayed by one of our beginner artists. Mary worked with her mentor International Bonsai Master Larry Jackel on this tree for several years. Larry is the curator of the Denver Botanical Garden Bonsai collection and well known author and expert on Conifers. It has been a pleasure for me to watch the interactions between Mary and Larry over her first entry in our local show. To me this is what Bonsai is all about that special relationship that develops between a Master Bonsai artist and one of his new students. The smile and pride being displayed by Mary during the show over her tree is something I will never forget.
