The Waldo Canyon Fire started on June 23, 2012 and finally was contained on July 12, 2012 almost a full month it burned. The fire was directly west of Colorado Springs a large city along the front range of the Rocky Mountains.

A student managed to video tape the fire for 10 days. His first video is the most dramatic of the two. The magnitude of the fire was immense as it came very close to and entered the edge of both Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs not to mention numerous smaller communities in the mountains themselves. Some homes in western Colorado Springs were destroyed.
