Colorado Bonsai – Working on Oaks
International Bonsai Master Mauro Stemberger has a video out titled “Working on Oaks” in which he discusses Qurecus Suber – Cork Bark Oak Bonsai trees. Mauro gives some basic advice on how he collects the trees, stores them for winter and then starts to style the tree. Its a great video and perhaps some of Mauro’s techniques can be used to collect and eventually turn some of the Western United States Oak species into great Bonsai trees (Quercus gambelii – Scrub Oak, Quercus undulata – Wavy Leaf Oak, Quercus grisea – Gray Oak, Quercus hypoleucoides – Silver Leaf Oak). Some of these oak species have great potential for Bonsai trees as they have incredible deadwood and bark on them. I have added this video to the Quercus (Oak) Bonsai page, under Deciduous Bonsai and Bonsai Tree Information pages.
