In the early spring of 2020 I ordered a bunch of plants to use as Accent plants for Bonsai displays. I ordered a yellow colored one called “Appletini” which only gets 6 inches tall. The Hosta arrived in spring and looked really nice. The leaves were very yellow and would latter turn into a chartreuse color. Colorado is very high in elevation and quite often yellow colored plants will turn a chartreuse color because of it. In other words if I lived at sea level the plant would still be yellow. I thought this Hosta needed a really nice pot and I just happed to have a very nice Jack Bacus pot that needed a plant. So I married the two and they actually look very good together. The accent plant spent the growing season under 30% shade cloth on the south side of the house. The accent plant was sitting on the ground where it is much cooler then on top of the growing bench. It did seem to like it there and grew ok. My biggest worry was some stupid squirrel would come along and attack it. My neighbor is feeding them! I did use the accent plant in the 2020 Rocky Mountain Bonsai Society 51st Virtual Bonsai show.
