Many years ago I purchased a Fothergilla shrub from Home Depot for $3 at the end of the year sale. It was in bad shape and I let it grow and nursed it back to health. Sometime around 2014 I put it into a nice Bonsai pot and it looked pretty good. This is one shrub that has larger leaves that turn brilliant red in the fall. But it is the flowers in spring that are its best features. They are very frilly white flowers that smell like honey! There are a couple of varieties with one having normal green leaves and another with bluish leaves, both have the same gorgeous white flower. The tree was developing nicely in the Bonsai pot until it was attacked by you guessed it a rodentia more specifically a squirrel and I lost it. But none the less I keep looking for them in the Denver metro area and I have yet find another one that could be used for Bonsai. So every year I go out looking for another one to bring home and nourish. But until then I still have an old photo that is somewhat blurry but I think you can still see why they actually make very good Bonsai. I did find another Fothergilla Bonsai on the internet taken by IBC Forum member Arthur Joura.
So here are the photos I hope you enjoy them:
