HomeUncategorizedColorado Bonsai – Pine tip blight – Is it happening in a tree near you?

Kansas State University has a nice article titled “Pine tip blight – Is it happening in a tree near you?“. From the looks of the pine tree candles in the photos it looks like my Pinus Sylvestris “Scots Pine” trees are affected by this disease. There is an Pinus Nigra landscape tree across the street from my house that appears to be dying back from the top down, it started with last years candles only. It looks like I should use a fungicide right now since the candles are starting to elongate. Two of my Scots Pine trees are not producing any new candles yet. I have some other pines and they will get treated to try keep them from getting it. I will be using Daconil to treat them. I have added this article to the Diseases/Insects page under Bonsai Basics and the Pines Bonsai page under Conifers Bonsai and Bonsai Tree Information pages.
